Arabian Travel Market (ATM), the leading travel and tourism event for inbound and outbound tourism professionals across the Middle East, has announced that “Working Towards Net Zero” will be its official theme for ATM 2023, which takes place at the Dubai World Trade Center from May 1 to 4.

RX (Reed Exhibitions), the organizer of ATM, will celebrate its 30th annual event by unveiling a dedicated sustainability pledge, not only to make the ATM 2023 event more sustainable, but to announce 30 long-term goals as the ‘ATM is working towards net zero in line with the RX Global commitment.

According to a report by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), travel and tourism represent between 8 and 11% of global emissions. It also revealed that 42% of travel and tourism companies analyzed currently have publicly announced climate goals, 61% of travelers say they want to travel more sustainably in the future, and more than 80% of travelers plan to prioritize to sustainability in their journeys ahead. year.

In addition, Skift and McKinsey research found that globally, more than 3,500 organizations from all sectors have set emission reduction targets, including airlines, hotels, restaurants and those that provide leisure and tourism services. Air travel alone is expected to account for 12-27% of global emissions by 2050, and 40% of travelers worldwide say they are willing to pay at least 2% more for carbon-neutral plane tickets.

“Compounding the challenges of reaching net zero, travel activity is projected to skyrocket 85% from 2016 to 2030,” Curtis added.
