Macau’s Hong Thai Travel Services business is unaffected despite the travel agency’s recent decision to temporarily close its Hong Kong operations, said Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macau Government Tourism Office. (MGTO).

Hong Kong media reported last week that the parent company of mainland-based Hong Thai Travel Services, Caissa Tosun Development, had passed a resolution to launch the voluntary liquidation of the loss-making travel agency, which had already closed. all its branches in the neighboring SAR. to reduce costs.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a cultural event last Saturday, the MGTO chief said the local branch was unlikely to follow suit, explaining that it was still paying its service providers on a regular basis.

She also added that local tour operators are protected by insurance policies, with each of them required to provide a minimum guarantee of MOP 500,000 before setting up shop.

According to the Macao SAR Government’s Consumer Council, all local branches of Hong Thai Travel Services have since stopped taking new customers.
