The reindeer relay and the Place des Fêtes lighting event returns for 2021

CASPER, Wyoming (Wyoming News Now) – Sunday night the Christmas season kicks off in Casper.

There will first be a reindeer relay around the park, then the lighting ceremony for Place des Fêtes will take place after dark.

“I am really delighted that this is my first time at Reindeer Relay and as Executive Director I am really looking forward to meeting all of the angel volunteers and people passionate about helping cancer patients,” said WFCC . Executive Director Amy Womack.

The Reindeer Relay 5K will start at 4 p.m. Registration for the race is open online. In-person registration can be done up to fifteen minutes before the event.

Volunteers from the Angels Cancer Care program and the Wyoming Foundation for Cancer Care host the event.

Individuals and groups can participate, relay teams can have up to eight runners. The cost of participation is $ 20 per runner, all money raised will go to help provide care for cancer patients.

“All of our funds raised are intended to help cancer patients in Wyoming. We can help patients with non-medical financial needs, it’s on a case-by-case basis, there are a lot of different things we can help with, ”said Abigail Strube, Executive Director of WFCC.

Prizes will be awarded for the first men, women and teams.

After the race, participants can join other guests and enjoy the annual Holiday Square lighting ceremony.

The event is returning after not having taken place in 2020. Sunday is the first night, the Christmas lights will be on in Healing Park and then they will come on every night until January 1st. The lights will come on at 5 p.m. and the light show will start at 5.30 p.m.

The park decorations are designed to be walked around, but they can also be seen from cars on the road, for people who just want to drive by.

Almost all of the lights and other items in the park were donated by local businesses.

“Well over 20 years ago it got bigger and bigger and a few years ago we added the light show to the music and we kind of add stuff every year,” said Beth Andress, coordinator. by Keep Casper Beautiful.

Santa Claus and Mrs Clause will be at the event, children cannot sit on their knees but they can bring a letter with their Christmas list for Santa to take back to the North Pole.

Hot chocolate and cookies will be served while supplies last.
