Thunderbirds, Huskies and Eagles remain top in football polls

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – The big three in high school football remain atop the latest pigskin rankings, according to the Alaska Sports Broadcast Network.
Cook Inlet’s Division 1 Conference teams East Anchorage, Juneau and West Anchorage both post unbeaten wins in the young season, but that will all change with the Juneau Huskies heading to the roost of the West Eagles for a 2 p.m. clash on Saturday. West beat Bartlett 33-9 and Service 35-6.
The East Thunderbirds will have their own trials and tribulations as they welcome unbeaten Division Two Lathrop Malemutes (2-0) to their nest. This is the first time since 2018 that two number one teams have met. In 2018, the top-ranked Division Two Soldotna Stars defeated Division One, West. East defeated South 59-22 and Service 45-22.
The fourth-ranked Colony Knights (1-1) go to the fifth-ranked South Wolverines (0-1). Dimond is 0-1. Bartlett’s Service Cougars and Golden Bears are 0-2.
Service lost to West 35-6 last week and East 45-22 week 1; Bartlett lost to Colony 40-13 last week and West 33-9 on Week 1. Service is playing Dimond this week; and Bartlett plays DII Palmer.
ASBN poll lists top five division two / three teams as Lathrop (2-0), Eagle River (2-0), Monroe (2-0), North Pole (2-0) and Wasilla (2-0) . Eagle River is hosting the North Pole this week, Monroe is heading to Eielson, and Wasilla is hosting West Valley.
DII Eagle River defeated DIII Houston 50-0 and DIII Homer 57-0. DIII Monroe defeated DIII Nikiski 52-14 and DIII Seward 38-8. DII North Pole defeated DII Chugiak 30-6 and DII Kenai 36-0. DII Wasilla defeated DIII Houston 31-6 and DII Kodiak 34-6.
Note: according to ASBN, this week is the first time that Soldotna has not been ranked in the top 5 polls. Soldotna (0-1) fell to Lathrop 27-21 last week. Lathrop also beat DII Palmer 50-7.
In a national ranking poll, DI East still led, followed by DII Lathrop, DI West, DII Soldotna, DII Eagle River, DII Wasilla, DI Juneau, DI Colony, DI South and DI Bartlett. Then followed DI Service, DII Palmer, DIII Barrow, DIII Houston, DII North Pole, DIII Monroe, DI Dimond, DIII Homer, DII Chugiak, DII West Valley, DIII Redington, DII Kenai, DII Kodiak, DIII Nikiski, DIII Valdez, DIII Eielson and DIII Seward.
