V&T Railway to Host Character Auditions for 2021 Production of Holiday Train The Polar Express | News from Carson City, Nevada

CARSON CITY – V&T Railway in partnership with Lollipop Productions is hosting a casting for the annual production of The Polar Express train for the 2021 season. Upbeat and energetic actors, actresses and singers will fill the following roles: steward, chef, waiter (13 years and older more); Conductor (20 years and over); Hobo (25 years and over); Hero Boy (8 to 12 years old). Acting and singing experience is not required.
All performers should have the ability to do simple dance moves and perform at a high level of energy and excitement.
To ensure a safe and clean environment, all performers and the crew should undergo temperature checks at the start of the casting call, rehearsals and performances. Anyone with a high temperature above 99.9 degrees Fahrenheit will not be allowed to stay at the event on that day. Train cars are disinfected between each trip and masks are required for all actors, crew and passengers on board, in accordance with government regulations.
The 23-night event is attended by more than 10,000 passengers per year. Performances begin Thursday, November 18 and continue through Friday, December 24, with three performances each evening at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The Polar Express Train Ride is based on the Holiday Storybook and the Warner Bros. feature film. Pictures about a skeptical young boy who takes an extraordinary train journey to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. To the sound of the film’s soundtrack, the performers bring this classic story to life before the eyes of passengers in pajamas on a magical journey as this overnight train takes families on an unforgettable journey to the North Pole. During the trip, conductors, stewards, waiters and chefs strike tickets and serve hot chocolate and cookies to passengers as the classic Chris Van Allsburg story is told over the head.
The mysterious Hobo character from the story is on board to give his advice to any skeptics of the great man, Santa Claus. At the North Pole, Santa Claus boards the train and greets the children with the first Christmas present, and the elves entertain passengers with Christmas carols and merriment as the train returns to Carson City.
Those interested in being a part of this energetic and magical spectacle have two chances to attend the casting call to be held in Carson City at Adams Hub located at 111 W. Proctor Street, Carson City NV. Casting dates are Tuesday, September 28 and Wednesday, September 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Performers only need to attend one date of this casting call, but must stay for the full three hour period of the date they are attending. Those under 18 must have a parent / guardian who attends the entire casting call.
All performers are considered subcontractors and receive honoraria for each evening of performance. The fee amounts are based on the role played in the production. The fees are as follows: Hero Boy – $ 25; Conductor – $ 60; Hobo – $ 55; Steward – $ 55 to $ 65; Chef and waiter – $ 50 to $ 55. All actors must complete a W-9 within two weeks of the first rehearsal date. Any cast member 18 years of age or older whose fees exceed $ 600 will receive a 1099 miscellaneous.
Rehearsals take place on Fri, Sat and Sun. from Friday September 24, 2021 through Sunday November 14, 2021. Friday night rehearsals take place at the V&T Railway Eastgate Depot, 4650 Eastgate Siding Road, Carson City. Daytime rehearsals take place on Saturdays. and Sun. at Adams Hub, 111 W. Proctor Street, Carson City. All performers are required to attend at least two rehearsals per week. Exceptions approved by the director are allowed one week before the absence.
The Polar Express train ride is scheduled from November 18 to December 24 for 23 nights. Performers are encouraged to indicate their availability for 17 nights of this 23-night event. It is preferable that artists are available to work on all nights of the event for production continuity purposes; however, exceptions to this requirement may be available depending on individual circumstances. The request for review under the exception requirement must be made at the time of your casting call and approval is at the discretion of the Director, Carla Wilson.
