Well-established travel agency in Staffordshire under new ownership after founder’s retirement

A well-established travel agency in Staffordshire has changed hands after being taken over by a luxury tour operator.

Journeys a la Carte, in Uttoxeter, has been acquired by Northamptonshire-based Avventura Group – which also owns Avventura Travels – for an undisclosed sum.

Local businesswoman Margaret May – who launched Journeys a la Carte in 1995 – decided to sell the business so she could retire.

The deal will see the existing Journey a la Carte team retained and transferred to the Avventura Group.

Margaret said: “Journeys a la Carte has been a huge part of my life for over 25 years, and I’m extremely proud of its success.

“Success due to the incredible and incredible team at Journeys, our wonderful customers, the tour operators we work with, and AITO and TTA who have always been there to help lead the way.

“I am now retiring delighted to know that Richard will lead Journeys and the team into a happy and secure future.”

Avventura Group – which launched in 2019 – offers tailor-made itineraries for exclusive and luxurious adventures.

CEO Richard Hadfield said: “Journeys a la Carte is an exceptional travel company with a strong reputation for deep knowledge, honest and unbiased advice and unparalleled expertise and we really aim to make it that way.

“We are delighted that Margaret has agreed to sell the business to us and that she continues to be available to us with her local knowledge and expertise to achieve a smooth ownership transition. We wish her a happy and well-deserved retirement. “

“The team has been very supportive of our acquisition, and it’s nice to be able to give them job certainty in these difficult times.

“We have very exciting plans to strengthen and grow the business by investing in IT and marketing.”

Richard added: “There is huge pent-up travel demand and holiday sales have already picked up following the Government’s announcement that testing rules have been relaxed for fully vaccinated travellers.

“Research by leading travel industry bodies shows that UK consumers are eager to travel again, and we fully intend to ensure that we at Journeys a la Carte are ready to enjoy the return. “
