I always look for different places when I travel to find unique and unique properties that will make the trip memorable. Over time, I’ve noticed more and more luxury treehouses appear in hotel searches and on Airbnb. After my first stay at one, I was hooked.

These properties are the best of all worlds: they have a rustic charm and are often quiet and immersed in nature, and most of them are complemented by modern luxury amenities. Recently, I have stayed at four tree-top resorts in four different states. Here’s what each experience looked like.

The Treehouse Suite is just one of the many unusual experiences offered by Winvien. The property is packed with unique options, including a fully restored 1968 Sikorsky HH-3F Pelican helicopter that was transformed into a suite, but the tree house really stuck to me.

After walking up the stairs with our bags, my boyfriend Max and I opened the door to find a huge king-size bed, a beautiful terrace overlooking the forest, a steam room, a double fireplace and a large hot tub. , all in the treehouse.

We had an amazing dinner on the property, a relaxing Swedish massage at the spa and visited the nearby Thorncrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates for delicious sweets made on site.

The Mohicans were one of the first luxury tree houses I have visited and probably the most impressive because of the variety of options available within the property. Each treehouse is extremely different and distinctive, with its own unique style and interior design.

The little red hut has stained glass windows and was featured in an episode of Treehouse Masters. There’s even a treehouse with a full retro Van Airstream in the tree. With so many options it was hard to choose a treehouse, but we landed on El Castillo.

With full plumbing, two decks, flat screen TVs, hot showers, air conditioning, and an outdoor shower, there were wonderful amenities. The outdoor shower was amazing. After an evening of wine and movies, a hot and steamy outdoor shower while hearing the crickets singing was fantastic. We enjoyed our days in Glenmont kayaking, ziplining and pushing back.

While not as high as some of the other properties, the Treetop Lodge is still technically lifted and immersed in the greenery of the forest. The award-winning luxury resort, Hidden Pond, offers a variety of different accommodations, outdoor swimming pools, a Spa in the trees, and a delicious on-site restaurant, Earth.

The layout was beautiful and there were plenty of places to cycle for free on the property, bonfires to roast marshmallows for s’mores and relax by the pool during my two night stay. The cozy treehouse vibe, blending the plaid and earthy tones of LL Bean’s design collection, and Earth’s amazing cocktails were certainly my favorite aspects of the property. The outdoor shower was amazing too, with trees swaying overhead.

This Airbnb the property was magical when my boyfriend and I visited just before the holidays at the end of 2020. The weather was quite cold but the cabin was heated and had a cozy fireplace, spiral staircase, hot showers, bed cozy with lots of blankets and the best part – an outdoor cedar hot tub overlooking a pond.

The hot tub turned out to be the perfect way to unwind in the evening during our overnight stay. Although surrounded by snow, it was romantic as we were kept warm by the boiling water and ended the night with a Christmas movie on TV.

Owner Andrew, who runs the property with his wife, built the entire treehouse himself, including the hot tub. I was very impressed with the beauty and attention to detail of the property, from the cute decor dotted throughout, to the cabinet and fridge stocked with ingredients for the homemade Belgian waffles and the local maple syrup from Vermont for guest enjoyment.

If you’re thinking of booking a treehouse getaway, now is the time

In addition to these rustic and unique properties, their luxurious and modern amenities make this the perfect secluded retreat. They all have something amazing to offer and I would visit these four properties again.
